Jasper Berehulke

Jasper Berehulke (he/him) is a two-spirit, transgender artist from the Syilx Okanagan territory, whose creative practice and advocacy focus on identity, cultural reclamation, and community building. Growing up in the Okanagan, Jasper dedicated himself to creating safe and inclusive spaces for queer youth, fostering a sense of community and belonging that continues to influence his work today.

His artistic journey began in animation school, where he developed his skills in storytelling and visual design. After working in the animation industry for a year, he decided to shift his focus to fine art, returning to university to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts at UBC Okanagan and Vancouver. He graduated in 2024 with the Beau Dick and Ellen Neel Award, having concentrated on oil painting as a medium to explore themes of identity, representation, and cultural reclamation.

He has participated in exhibitions at Gallery George, Hatch Gallery, the Outsiders Festival, and the East Van Art Crawl, as well as residencies such as the Future Arts in Residence in Vancouver and the Luminous Bodies Residency in Toronto. His projects frequently delve into land-based healing and the integration of traditional and contemporary art forms, reflecting his dedication to both personal and collective growth.

He currently lives and practices on Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh lands and works at the Museum of Vancouver on the ancestral village site of Sen̓áḵw.
